...is that Junior is watching what ol' Pervert Newsheriff is doing over in Islamabad and taking notes for January of 2009...as this cartoon illustrates.

So...no bites yet on the extra ticket to see Jonathan Coulton and Paul & Storm on the evening of the 9th (which is to say, this Friday) here in Atlanta. [personal profile] autographedcat and [personal profile] kitanzi begged off for differing reasons, and nobody else has responded to inquiries here or in e-mail.

For any who still don't know who these guys are, Jon wrote "Re: Your Brains," "Skullcrusher Mountain" and a whole lotta other nifty original silly songs, as well as a cover of Sir Mix-A-Lot's rap hit "Baby Got Back" that's the funniest since Richard Cheese's lounge-style version. Paul & Storm are two of the guys from the old Da Vinci's Notebook a capella group and every bit as hilarious. (They were trained by the leader of The Bobs, so you know they got the chops.)

$16 by cash, money order, check or PayPal puts you in the audience with me, [profile] voiceofkiki, [personal profile] filkferengi and (we hope) assorted others Friday night at the Five Spot, 8:30 PM (on Euclid Ave. in Little Five Points, next door to the Varsity Playhouse). Seating is open so far as I know, and the club is nice and intimate (read: small), so visibility and hearability should not be a problem. Anyone within reasonable driving distance who wants to buy the ticket and attend but needs crash space can sleep on my couch gratis if buying. You have until 6:30 PM Friday, two hours prior to showtime, to grab it.

All the gods forbid I should ever agree with anything written or said by conservative Washington Post pundit George Will. But so help me Tom Paine, I found myself nodding in agreement as I read his latest column on Congress' failure to rein in this President's military rampages through the Mideast, printed in my local paper's dead-tree edition (but sadly not, alas, posted on its website). The paper also pointed me to this book on the same subject, which I intend to look up the very next time I'm bookstore-prowling.

If even a longtime right-wing/GOP cheerleader like Will can finally see how far, far out of control this second Imperial Presidency has gotten, there may yet be hope for the republic. Now if he can only be persuaded to go across town and beat some sense into his warmongering colleague Bill Kristol...

"Well, Dr. Franklin, what have we got: a monarchy or a republic?"
"A republic, Madam...if you can keep it." —Benjamin Franklin, to a woman questioning him on his exit from the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, PA, 1787

Two of my favorite people, [personal profile] mamadeb and [profile] ericavdg, are both becoming more beautiful by a year today. Happy birthday and hugs to both of you.

I knew I'd write a Stargate: SG-1/Atlantis filk one day; I just didn't even dream it would be about THIS character! (Inspired by the caption on an LJ userpic I saw the other day.)

...and now, this new Chanukah gift-giving idea from Gizmodo:
Ultra-Orthodox J-Phone Doesn't Roll On Shabbos

Courtesy of the rec.music.dementia database (dmdb.org), a whole page full of lyrics to songs and song parodies about computers. All of them have been played on air by that chap in my icon up there at one time or another, and most are just begging to be hauled out at the next housefilk or convention open circle, even in spite of technological advances that have occurred since they were written. (I actually have done at least one, "The White Collar Holler," in a circle or two...and imagine my shock to discover that Stan Rogers of blessed memory was not that song's original author after all!)
