Once again, we welcome those who aren't at the Ohio Valley Filk Fest this weekend and wish they could be; those who aren't and don't give a good goddamn; those who've never been and would like to; those who are there and want to tell us about it; and even those who've never even heard of the bloody thing and wonder what all the fuss is about. And as grateful as I am for the incredible variety of edibles, WHERE'S THE FREAKIN' MUSIC, PEOPLE?!? This is supposed to be a filkers' party, not a foodies' party! (Not that filkers who also happen to be foodies [or vice versa] aren't welcome, but that's not where the emphasis is supposed to be.) List your top five favorite filk songs, or top five performers, groups or composers. Post a new lyric or poem you've written, or a really nifty one you've gotten from someone else (with their permission, of course). Talk about good filk cons, housefilks or other events you've been to. We need some filk in this here filk party!

My favorite memories from OVFFs past

In no particular order:

• Singing this song in an open circle and having telynor say afterward, "I'm never going to be able to look at you the same way again!" (The look on her face was priceless.)
  

• Premiering "A Simple Country Doctor" cold, with next to no rehearsal, during Saturday afternoon one-shots at my very first OVFF and getting a standing ovation...and being approached all the rest of the weekend by people telling me how much they loved it. (Best reaction, from wcg right after I sang it, in its entirety: "That was art.")

• Winning the Pegasus three years later for the very same song...and having my sweet Songbird singing_phoenix be there with me to see me get it. And being allowed to thank all the people who supported me over the years (a few of whom were present in the room), even though the thanks ended up being longer than the song itself.

• Performing in the Pegasus Nominees concert the night before winning, that same year.

• Watching cacie walk by in a lingerie-based outfit that showed off quite a bit of her amazingly voluptuous figure (gad, where did that sweet little girl with the big voice I remember vanish to?) and saying, "Does your mother know you run around dressed like that?" (yeah, yeah, I know, total fogey) and hearing her say, with an ever-so-cheeky grin, "Who do you think made the outfit for me?"

• Watching the Interfilk auction wenches (including catalana and kbeader) do the "we are not worthy" bows before winning bidders who'd just dropped several hundred dollars cash money to buy some seriously sinful chocolate something-or-other.
