With or without whipped cream? ;-)
1. How did you get into filking?
I was exposed to it before I knew what it was, at one of my very earliest cons, the last NutriaCon in New Orleans, LA in 1978. Walked into the con suite on the top floor of the lovely old Hotel Monteleone to find J. R. "Mad Dog" Madden strumming a guitar and singing "The Alcoholics' Anthem" with gusto. That must have been the start of it. Didn't really grok it until Bjo Trimble wrote about filk in her STARLOG column. Then started writing my own in my first year at LSU (1981-82) while working on the dish-cleaning line in a campus cafeteria. The rest, as they say, is hysterical.
2. How often do you get to Louisiana?
Once a year, at Christmas, barring the odd family wedding and/or funeral. (And yes, I have been through New Orleans since Katrina. Made me very sad.)
3. If you and Mary could live anywhere other than Atlanta, where would it be?
Anywhere in the Northeastern United States. (Mary would opt for beachfront property; I'd settle for being back in Noo Yawk.)
4. Did you ever watch Brokeback Mountain? If so, what did you think of it?
Not yet. I have promised Mary we will rent the DVD and she is not letting me forget it.
5. So are you and Mary ever going to "tie the knot?" [insert evil grin here]
[magic8ball] Ask again later. [/magic8ball]
Per Lynn's rules, I now offer to interview anyone else in like fashion with five questions.

Date: 2006-07-19 04:30 pm (UTC)2. How did you first find out about/enter SF/fantasy fandom, and when?
3. Did you find out about/enter filk music fandom at the same time, or not? If not, when/how?
4. What is your favorite color? (obligatory Monty Python reference)
5. Who is/was your favorite author?
Re: 5 questions for nrivkis
Date: 2006-07-19 08:34 pm (UTC)2) I followed a high school friend who followed a high school friend. I was never particularly a fan, and am still not; I used to go to conventions occasionally as a way to see certain friends, and I stopped that altogether after some extremely bad experiences in the late 80's. I only do filkcons now, never SF cons.
3) I blundered into filk at my first convention, when Technical Difficulties had set up in the lobby and were playing to whomever wandered through, and I stopped awestruck and listened for an hour. When I walked away from SF cons, the music was the only thing I missed. Eventually, ten years or so later, a couple of friends slowly persuaded me to try filk-only conventions, both because I liked the music and because they were a smaller, safer atmosphere.
4) Yes. I *like* color.
5) Depends a lot on the purpose and the context. My favorite single book is by Barry Hughart, but I'm not sure that makes a favorite author. Mary Renault is a possibility, or Ray Bradbury.
