Flashback to your childhood, part deux
Apr. 10th, 2007 08:55 pmRemember those (extremely) limited-animation short cartoons that used to run on TV, based on Marvel Comics' stable of superheroes? The ones where almost nothing moved but the characters' lips and limbs, and the images looked pretty much scanned right out of the original comics on which they were based? Well, it turns out YouTube has had the cheesy theme music and opening scenes from most of them uploaded by users apparently not too concerned about copyright violation:
Marvel's Asgardian hero flexes his muscles...
The Mighty Thor Theme
A jazzy "cool" theme combined smoothness with heroism...
Iron Man Theme
By far the cheesiest, most grating of the themes; you have been warned...
The Incredible Hulk Theme
And another of Marvel's Golden Age legacy heroes...
Sub-Mariner Theme
Sadly, the Captain America opening was not to be found by itself, although someone did upload whole segments of the Cap shorts with wiseassed new dialogue dubbed in here. If you click it off after the opening theme, you get the same effect. This is especially poignant now, given Marvel's recent editorial decision to kill off its oldest and most iconic superhero as part of the aftermath of its company-wide crossover megastory, Civil War. Cap's theme is easily the best of the five that were written: "When Captain America throws his migh-ty shiiiield... / All those who chose to oppose his shield must yiiiiield..."
Ah, the enthusiasm and limited experience of youth...
