Income tax grumpage

The good news: I finally got my income tax returns for 2006 filed tonight, after procrastinating for far too long following receipt of all the necessary forms. The bad: Not only am I not getting a refund as I usually do, but I owe money. Not much, admittedly, but $112.00 is still $112.00. I usually take enough exemptions on my W-4s to avoid precisely this outcome; yeah, I know, it's giving Uncle Sam an interest-free loan, but on the whole, I vastly prefer getting a check to having to write one at tax time. Grump, grump, grump. So much for the stuff I was going to buy with the windfall...

Around here, instead of a "refund", we refer to it as a "reluctant return of extorted overpayment."
