More gay marriage shenanigans in D.C.
Jun. 6th, 2006 02:18 pmAnother election cycle, another Republican attempt to deface the Constitution...
Fact one: Junior Bush's poll numbers are in the toilet, and so are Congressional Republicans'.
Fact two: A growing majority of the public is disgusted with the GOP's handling of both the Iraq occupation, its own (lack of) ethics and the domestic economy (especially skyrocketing gasoline prices), as said polls have repeatedly shown.
Fact three: The proposed Federal Marriage Amendment has absolutely no chance of passage in this session, given that it needs a two-thirds majority of both houses to be sent to the states for ratification.
And fact four: One-third of the Senate's members and all of the House's must face the voters this November to justify their re-election in the face of all of the foregoing.
No one outside of the GOP and its amen corner in the so-called "liberal" media who is aware of all four of these facts -- or remembers their pulling a similar stunt two years ago to get Junior reelected -- can possibly justify spraying this homophobic graffiti onto our Constitution as anything other than a frantic ploy to goose conservative voter turnout and offset the GOP's considerable negatives in the fall elections. (And let's not forget nailing down vulnerable Democrats' votes on the "wrong" side of the issue so that their GOP opponents can nail them with attack ads.) Naturally, the GOP leadership from Junior on down has no qualms whatsodamnever about insulting our intelligence by ferociously insisting that it is anything but a cynical attempt to manipulate the electorate's fears and prejudices. If your Congresscritter is Republican, please contact him/her TODAY with orders to knock it the hell off and get back to real work.
