The BBC's website has a story showing what kind of attitudes my Songbird will be dealing with in her work to help stop the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa. This report notes that Nigeria is about to pass a law mandating tough, persecutory new punishments for anyone caught LWH (living while homosexual) within its borders. So far, South Africa is the only place on the sub-Saharan continent showing any sign of sense on this topic; African (and other black-dominated) societies continue to treat homosexuality with an even stronger taboo than white societies (cf: Zimbabwe). Despite organized opposition, the bill is expected to pass handily. Where's Bishop Tutu when we really need him?
