The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports here what most other newspapers in the country are front-paging today: the lopsided victory of the Indianapolis (neƩ Baltimore) Colts over the Chicago Bears in yesterday's 41st playing of the National Football League's annual Super Bowl championship game. (Condolences or congratulations to you as warranted, depending on how good and/or lucrative the outcome was for you.)
But as a N'awlins boy, I couldn't help but smile a bit to note that the guy named as the game's Most Valuable Player turned out to be my homie Peyton Manning, one of two sons following in the footsteps of legendary former Saints QB Archie Manning. (Can you say "dynasty"? I knew you could.) Now if we could only convince ol' Peyt to come back home, sign with his daddy's team and use that arm where it can really do some good...
Since the above is about the extent of my interest in the actual game itself, I thought I'd be different and post a Super Bowl discussion topic more in line with my personal preferences and work experience: What did you think, if you watched, was the best of the much-vaunted, obscenely expensive commercials run during the game? Which ones made you laugh out loud, groan and cover your eyes, or salivate for the product like one of Pavlov's dogs at the bell? USA Today's annual Super Bowl "Ad Meter" column ranked Budweiser as top dog among game advertisers for having the most and best spots. Do you agree? What about Coca-Cola's return to Super Bowl ads after a years-long absence? Or that wild spot for GoDaddy.com? If you missed out, a fellow former New Orleanian has put together a nifty site that aggregates coverage of the "ad bowl" for Super Bowls past and present, superbowl-ads.com.
