As noted by several on my friends list, humorist and commentator Art Buchwald has finally passed at the age of 81. His was one of the first columns I always turned to when reading The Washington Post (or any newspaper I could lay hands on that carried it). Of his colleagues and contemporaries, Dave Barry could be sillier, Lewis Grizzard folksier, and P. J. O'Rourke snarkier, but no one was wiser...or funnier. His gutsy decision to tough it out without dialysis or transplants in the face of acute renal failure, and his longer-than-expected run of confounding the highly trained specialists who said he wouldn't last two months without intervention, made him all the more remarkable. Goodbye, Mr. B., and thanks for all the yuks. Thanks for reminding our leaders and public figures that no one is too important or powerful to be made fun of. And thanks for modeling a life lived doing what you loved and loving what you did.
