Your Humble Correspondent, wearing several strings of gaudy plastic beads around his neck, carries in a big, round, luscious-looking king cake (those who do not know what one is can go look here). Placing it on a table with paper plates and plastic utensils handy, he takes up a silver cake server and starts slicing. "Happy Twelfth Night, everybody! Carnival season in New Orleans has officially begun!" He begins ladling out pieces of the cake, glistening with purple, green and gold sugar frosting, onto plates.
A tape of concerts and open filking from the just-concluded GAFilk convention plays on the stereo. A large glass jar labeled "Please Donate for Katrina Relief" sits in the corner, waiting for visitors to drop in cash.
