National Public Radio reports here that the 2006 hurricane season has now officially ended...without a single hurricane strike in the United States. (For those wondering, the North Atlantic hurricane season, the principal one affecting the US, starts June 1st and ends November 30th, with a peak around September 10th.) While this will be small comfort to those in other nations who did suffer damage and loss of life this year from hurricanes and other types of storms, after two devastating seasons with 11 strikes, culminating in Hurricanes Katrina and Rita laying waste to New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, the respite is especially welcome. Maybe the Man Upstairs is taking pity on us.
