Well, I tried that "What Christmas Carol Are You?" quiz going around, and it got me totally wrong. It figured me for a religious "Silent Night" type when I'm way more "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer." (Though I will admit that "O Holy Night" can still cause me to tear up, especially the Céline Dion version. You can take the boy out of the Catholic Church, but...) But it got me thinking of the whole long playlist of novelty and parody songs I have on my Mac at home in the iTunes library marked "Holiday Hilarity." A small sampling:
- "Santa Claus Is Watching You," by Ray Stevens (the original, not any of his subsequent remakes);
- "Santa's Gonna Kick Your Ass," by The Arrogant Worms (great for scaring those bratty kids of yours back into line for the holidays);
- "You Ain't Getting Diddly Squat," by Heywood Banks;
- "It's So Chic to Be Pregnant At Christmas," by Nancy White;
- "Christmas At Ground Zero" and "The Night Santa Went Crazy" by Weird Al Yankovic;
- "The 12 Pains of Christmas," "The Most Fattening Time of the Year" and "Police Stop My Car" (TTTO "Feliz Navidad"), by Bob Rivers and company;
- "Gridlock Christmas," by The Hollytones; and
- "Green Chri$tma$," by Stan Freberg (which got him into serious trouble with his sponsors when he first recorded it circa 1965 or so).

Date: 2006-11-28 02:21 pm (UTC)*panics* I have no idea what's become of our "12 Yats of Christmas" tape since the move! Hopefully it's in with the Christmas decorations, but if not, I guess I'll be sending one of the in-laws to Walgreens.

Date: 2006-12-03 02:25 am (UTC)For more mainstream holiday delights, there's always Mediaeval Baebes, Maddy Prior, Baltimore Consort, Jethro Tull, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir [whose "Hallelujah Chorus" can't be beat]. Prior to last week, I would've said that, for "O Holy Night", there was mostly Nat King Cole. Then I heard Three Quarter Ale's exquisite 3-part harmonies in a holiday set. Fortunately, they've said their next album is holiday music.
When y'all come to visit, we'll share some cool music. [hint: bring a spare external hard-drive.]
Btw, I have a discount card from Books-a-Million & am always up for a trip;
