My beloved [info]singing_phoenix is finally coming home! Thursday afternoon around 2 PM Eastern, her flight gets into Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (because I know y'all were wondering.)...and I plan to be there with flowers and hugs for my poor jet-lagged partner. Her time with the CDC Global AIDS Project's Kenya office is over for now—but she has applied for a longer-term job there, a two-year stint starting sometime in 1Q 2007...and she has made it abundantly clear to moi that it will be very hard for her to do that work for so long whilst coming home every night to an empty Nairobi apartment. So we may BOTH be skipping the country before too long; I will keep my readers posted. (Don't worry, we'll still be here for GAFilk 2007; clearances and such will take a couple months at least, even assuming she gets the nod—the post is a cushy one and lots of other CDC types have also applied.)

Heh. That's it! No more exports of US filkers until we start getting some back in return. First [livejournal.com profile] telynor, then [livejournal.com profile] tarkrai, and now possibly you. What's a poor country gotta do to get a fair return on its investment? <g,d,rvvvf>

If it happens, that sounds like it would be all kinds of cool, and I am already envious.

Envious, huh? Easy for you to say; you won't be giving up two whole years of convention-going and housefilks. (We *may* be able to make Darkover on home leave, but that's about it.) But you're right; we do need to get a better balance of filker trade with the rest of the world. Quotas, anyone? :-)

Heh. With my work schedule, I more or less HAVE given up about five years of congoing (with one or two exceptions per year) and almost all social life. (That should be changing by year-end, though. I hope. I pray. They've told me so, but I believe anything at work when I see it.)

But the travel, that I envy. I've never been off of North America, much less lived elsewhere.

Oh, I'm so pleased to hear she's coming home. :) I know you miss her terribly!

Wheee - yay! I'm glad she's coming home, and does the longer stint mean that the really nasty work problems are being resolved?

Actually, the longer stint may be a means of escape from the really nasty work problems; as far as I know, those have emphatically NOT been resolved as yet. Still waiting to hear what the next move by CDC is on that one.
