Back on DW and off LJ

Well, maugorn has announced he is permanently leaving LiveJournal and moving his account here. He describes the environment of LJ under current ownership as less "a place of free expression" than "the home owned by a dysfunctional, controlling parent."

I haven't posted regularly to LJ myself in quite some while, so I haven't been aware of recent developments there; but Maugie is a longtime friend and I trust his judgment implicitly. So I'm following his lead, and all further posts that would have gone to LJ will be posted here instead from now on.

All posts currently on LJ will remain there, in case any of them are not accessible from here; but no new posts will be forthcoming. And I do need a place for longer posts that might be less appropriate on Facebook, Twitter or most of the other places I spend most of my social-media time these days. Plus, I have a number of friends who post here that are not on those other services, and frankly, I miss hearing from them.

I will try to remember to post more often here, and not deprive such not-on-FB/TW/etc. friends of such pleasure as they might find in hearing from me. If you're one of them, please put up a reply here and let me know how you're doing.

I stopped posting to LJ despite having a permanent account there I think when the servers were moved to Russia, and that's about when I stopped reading there as well. Whenever cross-posting was disabled they stopped getting any new content from me.

I have a permanent LJ account, but don't post now that crossposting is disabled. There are something like four accounts that I still read, and three of those are crossposted from Birdland. So no telling how long that will last.

I don't really log into lj much and don't do direct posting there (though I don't rule out commenting if I somehow end up there despite the politics). Same for the birdiste, really; I'm doing most of my social media on discord, here, and Mastodon.

Good to hear from you! I'm still here on DW, mainly reading, occasionally posting. I wish I could say we're doing well but we're dealing with some challenges at the moment. Things are happening that will at least give us some respite, and hopefully help address the primary challenges.

Nice to hear from you again! I never accepted the new LJ terms of service because I don't sign documents in languages I don't understand, so my last post there was whatever was my latest post when that change hit in 2017. The permanent account had a good run but the owners got hostile so that's that. I tried to keep reading there for a while, but as people dropped off or decreased posting frequency and as LJ made the user experience worse and worse, I eventually gave up. Every now and then I pop in to check in on one person who never came here, but less and less as time goes on.
