Post-election post-mortem
Nov. 8th, 2006 11:51 amCan I just say one thing in regards to yesterday's election results? (With apologies to
kitanzi and anyone else who felt nagged to death about voting...)
YES!!!
All the work was not wasted. The Democrats have wrested control of the U.S. House of Representatives from the clutches of the GOP, and the Senate is only two contested seats away from a like fate. (As of this morning, Virginia and Montana were still in too-close-to-call territory, and the latter has announced it will not certify results until after frakkin' Thanksgiving. Aargh.) Yes, several states joined the anti-gay-marriage paranoia parade, and here in Georgia the two GOP candidates at the top of the ticket swamped their Dem challengers. (Another four years of Sonny Perdue as governor. Double aargh.) But we kept Rep. John L. Lewis, Rick "Sanatorium" Santorum is finally out of a job, and so is that prick Mitt Romney in Massachusetts, which elected its first black governor ever (only the 2nd in the nation's history, after Virginia's L. Douglas Wilder). And the House will likely have its first-ever female Speaker in Nancy Pelosi. And most importantly, the Bush Regime will finally have a countervailing force to its growing avarice for power and vindictive abuses of same.
ADDENDUM, Wed. 11/8, 1:19P: More good news...Several on my Flist inform me that Donald "Insert Your Iraq Joke Here" Rumsfeld has announced he will resign as SecDef. So he at least can read the writing on the wall, even if his boss can't. Maybe the Republic isn't doomed after all.
