Thankful Thursday seems a good idea just now. This week I am thankful for:

  • The hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of United States government employees, in the US and abroad, who are still able and willing to do their jobs, and do them conscientiously, whether or not they are still getting paid.

  • The fact that my Songbird is one of the ones still getting paid, since her agency's money is already in hand.

  • Having a doctor nearby to treat her with kindness and competence when the ulcerated abrasion on her cornea started making her cry with pain.

  • Having a vet nearby who treats our three kitties with the same kindness and skill, and was able to help our poor old Maine coon Rosita ("Rosie") with recurring diarrhea and an ingrown claw today.

  • Having a more-than-decent roof over our heads, food on our table and clothes on our backs (however threadbare some few of them may be)...especially in a country where the bulk of people live in tin-roofed shacks on a few dollars a week.

  • The many friends who expressed kind thoughts when I posted about SB's eye injury yesterday including some who have never even met her. Bless you and thanks, one and all.

  • Mint chocolate instant latté, a mix for which I found last week at the local supermarket in Mbabane. 250 ml of heated milk and four heaping teaspoons make for a delightful cuppa.

  • Friends in GAFiA who were kind enough to help me take part in last month's housefilk via Skype...and are doing it again in December.

  • The sun finally being out again after three days of rain, fog and grayness. Rainy season in southern Africa can be a bitch sometimes.

  • Making new local contacts which will hopefully result in more freelance work.

  • Being in at least reasonable health myself and able to take care of Songbird while she convalesces.

  • Finally getting that new 42" multi-system flat-screen TV we brought from the States hooked up and running (thanks to help from a fellow US government spouse who lives nearby)...and discovering it has a far clearer picture than the Embassy loaner we'd been using.

  • [livejournal.com profile] talis_kimberley, for reminding me to be thankful for what I do have today...and not to sweat what I don't.

So...howzabout you?

I am thankful that Uncle Sugar let me off the 9-5 leash before I killed myself from the stress.

I'm thankful that homegrown property line stress is on the way to resolution before...it got any worse, & that the Professora found the misplaced heirloom *she* was double-stressing over.

I hope that Songbird's eye heals soon. It's horrible to have that kind of pain.
