Actor James MacArthur, last surviving member of the original cast of CBS' iconic 1968-1980 crime drama series Hawaii Five-O, has died this past Thursday (28 Oct.) of what was cited as "natural causes" in a Florida hospital at 72. A full report is here.
Wikipedia's page on MacArthur reports that he was in talks to make a cameo appearance on the network's just-launched "reimagined" version of the show at the time of his passing. One presumes this meant he was not bothered by the notion of redoing the show (indeed, he had participated in a 1997 revival playing his old character, former Five-O detective Danny "Danno" Williams, as Governor of the 50th state) or of his character's recasting with second-generation actor Scott Caan (yes, his dad is James). He kept active in both his craft and community up until the end.
Sympathies most sincere to his widow and two prior wives, four children and six grandchildren, and the rest of his family, friends, colleagues and fans. The one true Danno, it seems, has booked his last perp.
