No, I'm not at Ohio Valley Filk Fest this weekend...again, dammit! The Songbird and I have to stay here in town and deal with several fairly major life issues: find a bigger place to live before she has to start paying for her furniture/clothes/belongings shipment from Kenya still in storage, due for delivery in a very few weeks; choose a date and site for our wedding (sometime in early 2011, looks like at this point; any recommendations for location welcome), prepare for her next overseas work trip (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania for six weeks, leaving a week from this Wednesday); deal with way too much debt still unpaid to be spending hundreds of $$$ on a filk con right now; and come up with my set list for GAFilk XIII (I'm Toastmaster there this time and am expected to give an hour-long concert).
And I just realized that I forgot to vote for this year's Pegasus Awards before the deadline. Being a past nominee and winner (the former three times over), this is particularly embarrassing for me. Sigh. Ah, well, best of luck to every one of the 2010 nominees and I will post the winners lisr when it gets released sometime late tonight. Hope you all got your votes in.
So...who else wanted to go and couldn't, for whatever reason? And what are you doing instead? Or if you are there, what's the new hotel like? Who else is there? Come on in to the virtual con suite and bring something yummy to eat or drink and a song. I'm starting things off with a pot of hot mulled apple cider and cinnamon and the song mentioned in the Music tag.

Date: 2010-10-23 04:44 pm (UTC)On the other hand, I'm done with pity parties. I'd be glad to be at a Not at OVFF But NOT Self-Pitying Party, celebrating just because we can.
*materializes spread of cheeses, deli meats, and Greek yogurt for the celebrants*

Date: 2010-10-24 01:07 pm (UTC)By coincidence, I had hot mulled cider yesterday. And Phil and I had a very nice "we're not at OVFF" dinner last night with Ken and Peggi who couldn't make it this year.
We contribute zucchini bread to EVERYTHING these days, though today's batch will be the last from this year's garden. I'll add a pack of Sleemans Honey Brown Ale that I have on hand.
Yes, a GAFilk wedding seems appropriate for you. I loved the way Tom and Sue held their wedding at FKO (though it does mean we are all busy on their anniversaries).

Date: 2010-10-25 02:32 am (UTC)Since we're doing the con suite virtually here ;-), I'm bringing the leftovers from Necro's con suite AND the traditional Cthulhu Memorial Eye Scream social (this year, we had vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and mint chocolate chip flavors; toppings included broken Oreo cookies, chocolate and caramel syrup, strawberry sauce, cherry sauce, peach sauce, and two kinds of whipped cream: real and out of a can).
For a song, take your pick: Eye of the Tiger, Hungry Like the Wolf, American Woman (all of which I performed the vocals for on Rock Band in the game room), or something from the Beach Boys (hey, a girl's gotta work out to keep her figure, and much of their stuff rocks!).
