Once more, playing LJ birthday catch-up

Whoever the frak it was that got me addicted introduced me to Facebook, you can blame him/her for the recent severe dropoff in my LJ postings. (I think it was khaosworks, but I can't swear to it.) I almost escaped July altogether without a single entry on this page, and I'm determined not to let that happen again (especially as the Songbird, currently on two-month CDC duty in Kazakhstan, reads LJ but not FB). I also have been slighting my friends who may be on the former but not the latter and had their birthdays go by totally unremarked by me here. So, with apologies most abject and profuse, best wishes (belated or not) to the following:
