Though most of my childhood was spent in the bayous of southwest Louisiana, my mother's divorcing my father and getting hitched to a new fellow from the east Texas oil patch necessitated me and my brothers spending a few years in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. My inability to get along with my dad during my awkward late teens caused me to go back there to finish high school.

So you see, while it has been many years, I've spent time in the Lone Star State. I know (or thought I knew) these people of old. While it is a very red state, I never thought a state full of down-to-Earth, basically decent people like my stepdad and his family and friends would slide over the edge into foaming-at-the-mouth tea-baggery.

Until today, that is, when I read this. If you know how loquacious I usually am on this page, it should tell you something that for once, words abso-freaking-lutely fail me. We can only pray to whatever God or gods there be that saner heads prevent this odious new platform from ever being actually enacted into law.
