Amboseli National Park, on the Kenya/Tanzania border, 12:08 pm local time
Eight days ago, I announced I would be traveling again to Kenya...and so I did. I had also announced I would be blogging the trip on this page. Weeeellll.... That came a cropper due to far too much time spent (a) being unable to log on at home or elsewhere despite repeated tries, (b) helping the Songbird get her home and possessions ready for her return to the States, and (c) being just too damn tired otherwise. I have finally gotten online at the lodge we are staying at here, and will be driving back to Nairobi tonight; I will be flying out to Atlanta tomorrow night, and she follows later in the week.

I intend to catch everyone up later on when I have more online time, but meanwhile I just want everyone to know I did in fact get there safely and am returning. Pictures have been taken and will also be posted later. Most sincere and profuse apologies to anyone who worried...especially my boss, who is expecting me back at work Wednesday.

Hopefully the homebound preparations went well, and your return to the states will go surprisingly smoothly...

I'm glad you're doing OK; I figured you were just too busy to post. I looked at the lodge on the link you so kindly provided. Just the initial slideshow makes me want to go! I don't think Karl will be up for African travel for a long time; he doesn't think it's safe. But if we ever do go, I know where to start looking! Have a good time on safari and a safe trip home.

Traveling to Kenya is quite safe so long as you take sensible precautions; my Songbird lived in Nairobi for two years and avoided any incidents despite the city's high crime rate (it's not nicknamed "Nai-robbery" for nothing; carjackings and muggings are all too common). And traveling in country is also safe if you are in a vehicle with a local driver, as we did for our visits to Kenya's parks and resorts. As for the rest of Africa, it varies; some nations in the continent are on the State Dept's advisory list, some are not.

As much as fifty years ago, we'd have still been waiting for your letter. Safe home.
