Tears are very near to coming down my face. If this is a dream, nobody better fucking pinch me because I NEVER want to wake up! The New Orleans Saints have won their very first ever Super Bowl over the Indianapolis Colts, after a nail-biting four quarters in which it seemed they were doomed to fail. Not even Colts quarterback (and New Orleans hometown deserter) Peyton Manning, widely regarded as the best QB in the game today, could keep them from destiny. The final score? 31-17 New Orleans.
There's plenty of reportage on the plays that made it happen and the players who made them, so I won't waste your time with rehashing them here. I only thank whatever God or gods there be for New Orleans' head coach Sean Payton, QB Drew Brees, kicker Garrett Hartley (now holder of a spanking-new Super Bowl record for successful field goal length) and all the rest who helped this once-losingest team in the NFL defy the odds (and the oddsmakers, who favored the Colts to a man) to bring home football's biggest trophy to the City that Care Forgot. Five years after Katrina ravaged the area, a better shot in the arm for morale a still-rebuilding city couldn't ask for.
In other news, pigs are flying, Hell has frozen over and the Cubs are next to win the World Series....

(And I'd *love* to see the Cubs win the Big Dance. Pitchers and catchers report in two weeks!)

I've been rooting for them since I was a little kid - the Red Sox have had their turn, and I cheered, and the Saints are having their turn, and I cheered - so next year maybe it's our turn? *she hopes plaintively, but has learned not to place her happiness in professional sports*
