Neither the Songbird nor I shall be attending this weekend's silver-anniversary Ohio Valley Filk Fest, alas. Her business here in Atlanta and my need of $$$ for a newer vehicle to get to and from work both make such a trip a non-starter for us this year.

So who is going, or already there? And who else is making other plans? Post here and bring your favorite filkroom beverage and a song selection. In honor of this year's OVFF Guest of Honor, Duane Elms, I'll start things off with his "Don't Push That Button" and the requisite traditional bottle of filker's mother's milk.

I come in with a jug of hard apple cider, and toast the starting song appreciatively. Since I'm a much better guitarist in VR than I am in RL, I'll bring out Belle, my lovely little tenor guitar, and plug Steve Savitzky's Best Songwriter nomination by performing his "The River."

Nope, I'm not there this year either, for similar reasons. No song from me tonight; I've been feeling snubbed and alienated in the community. I'll just nurse my Magpie Mead and sit quietly in the corner.

I'm so sorry to hear you've been feeling snubbed. I can't say or do very much about it, but I see the person sitting in the corner and go sit next to you, with a tentative but friendly smile.

LOL - we still totally have an unopened bottle of Magpie's from Camp! still sitting on the kitchen counter. Saving it for a special occasion I think.

And..."Don't Push That Button"??? Oh my, wonder if it's the same one I heard some guy named Connor do in the SCA nigh on 20 years ago... *blink*

Well, since I'm late to the party, I don't really have any drinkables. Do you allow concerts?

If not... I guess I'm hogging....

I'll see your Tully, and raise you a Dalwhinnie 15... and being that it's That Time Of Year, I'll go with [livejournal.com profile] s00j's "Come To The Labyrinth".

Drat. I was hoping you'd make it.
I even pulled from the (Other) Rolling File Cabint the sheet music for that song you filked derivated.

I don't filk, but I'll be glad to join this little shindig. Bringing a bottle of sparkling blood orange juice in honor of Halloween.

I've gotten so disconnected from everything I'd even forgotten OVFF was this weekend.

I'll contribute a bottle of the Laphroig Quarter Cask. And I'll make a request for something for lost souls adrift.

The Songbird says she will happily sing "Psalm" for you as fulfillment of your request. It's a great song for lost souls adrift (she wrote it for me when I was in that condition myself, a few years back).

Lots of people in the Toronto area can't make OVFF this year, after running filk at Anticipation (and some of us were back in Montreal for ConCept because [livejournal.com profile] phillip2637 was music GoH.

So we're having a house filk tomorrow in Toronto. I'm making a crisp (it was going to be raspberry but the Northern Spy apples are in so that may change) and am happy to donate a virtual one here, along with a case of Mill Street Organic Lager.

I've never been to OVFF; I figured I'd be persona non grata there, so better to stay away as always.

As far as pity, I refuse to cry because I can't make it. I will be at my sister's place in Flowery Branch Saturday watching "Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog" (which I just won on ebay - Joss Whedon autographed it) with my nephews (including the one studying at Le Cordon Bleu here in Tucker). Sunday, several members of the local dim sum group are going to breakfast at a place called "North Chinese Eatery," IIRC, for a different sort of Chinese breakfast. It's not your usual dim sum. Afterwards, I have to record two sets of lines for a new audio drama and send in an audition for a third.

I'm not there either. Guess I'll use the time machine to watch the Drinking Song Contest from OVFF 20 years ago again.

I got some Captain Morgan Private Stock (it's a fine sipping Rum) and a real jug of Tully in the closet to get out to go along with it. Think I will stay away from the Coors Light this time.

Oh! Was that this weekend? Too busy editing the novel. I'll toss in a bottle of Hires Root Beer and... o crap I really should practice for Philcon.

While I'd love to be at OVFF, I'm stuck here in a hotel room in Baltimore awaiting the start of building code hearings. [livejournal.com profile] the_sheryl did go, and is hopefully collecting lots of hugs for me.

Not sure what to offer for drinks, since I usually just do water and the occasional soda in the filkroom. I did have a pint of Sierra Nevada with dinner though, so we'll go with that.

Song? Either "Sedona" or "Songs Flying Free", both mine. I'd have sung both of them at OVFF.
