Yesterday, gigabit Goliath Google once again defended its controversial decision to cooperate with the People's Republic of China's Communist government in censoring the information it provides to Middle Kingdom Internet users (see story on The Inquirer and sourcing Yahoo! News report). Internet pioneer Vint Cerf, speaking on the $6-billion-dollar company's behalf, said that Google was able, through its pact with the PRC, to give Chinese netizens access to a great deal of information they might otherwise never have had. The PRC, for its part, claims it does not censor its citizens' access to the Internet at all, insists that only a tiny handful of China's "thousands" of journalists have been imprisoned for accessing censored data, and wonders what all the fuss is about.
