The countdown begins: D minus 6 days, 18 hours, 12 minutes and counting

One week from today at precisely 10 AM Eastern Daylight Time, the doors will open on the 22nd annual Dragon*Con in beautiful downtown Atlanta, GA...and literally tens of thousands of fans of science fiction, fantasy and horror will descend on four major hotels within a six-block radius for four solid days of panels, celebrity appearances, filksinging, costuming, dancing and general partying.

We already know Your Humble Correspondent will be there, and that sadly his Songbird and sffilk will not. We know that joyeuse13 has already prepared costumes for herself and her young one. We know filkertom will be there in his capacity as an invited guest (despite the horrendous experience he endured as head of filk programming there previously), for which he is owed much gratitude. We know spambrian will be hard at work running the D*CTV videos and bumpers. And several members of the local SF clubs to which I belong will be there as well. If you're planning to join us and want to hook up for lunch or something, please fergossakes let me know now and let's exchange cell numbers or something so we can find each other amidst the hordes.

I'll bet that you'd probably go to SD Comic-Con, though, but I'm not sure. Would you? And in spite of what anyone says, D*C will get something between 60 and 70000 people.

Although the last few years it hasn't been as filk-friendly as it had been. They basically did a number on Tom Smith when he was filk track head, they did a number on Teri Wachoviak when she took over filk track. The new filk track head knows about filk but I'm not 100% sure he's a filker. He's a Celtic performer with several filkers who formed a band up in Chattanooga.
