Washington, DC City Council approves recognition of same-sex marriages licensed in other states
I predict before the week is out, some House or Senate member on the Republican side of the aisle (most likely, one facing a tough re-election bid next year) will decide s/he needs to stir up the base with a red-meat issue and demand that Congress—which has final say on local laws in the District (I should know; I used to live around there)—enact legislation overturning this decision. Any takers?

They might have a more difficult time doing so, considering the current composition of Congress. She says optimistically.

Don't ever underestimate the capacity of Democrat Congresscritters (especially ones facing tight re-election races in red/purple districts or states) to pander to the right. Remember, our current President, ostensibly a liberal Democrat, has stated publicly that he believes marriage should be for straight couples only (favoring the "separate but equal" civil-unions dodge for LGBTQ couples that should already long since have been off the table since Brown V. Board of Education). And Reid, Pelosi et al. have long ago proven their severe spinal deficiencies even when presented with a clear mandate and a numerical majority.

The more the radicals make noise about gay marriages, the less they will be relevant in any other circle. Much as I'm in favor of committed monogamous relationships between people who love each other, I'd rather have them think they won over DC then mess up a Supreme Court nomination.
