WASHINGTON, DC--For those who have been monitoring the story, an update: Mary, my partner, has been hospitalized in the national capital for gall bladder problems since last Thursday. She had been attending a government conference when she took ill and went to the emergency room seeking treatment. Her surgery took place on Monday morning (yesterday) and doctors removed a gallstone "the size of a robin's egg" (direct quote) from her, along with two or three smaller ones and the gall bladder itself. The patient is resting semi-comfortably (with pills for pain rather than the morphine IV drip she had initially) and back on solid food, having been given only a glucose drip since admission until surgery and clear liquids following. She is grateful (as am I) for all the support and kindness shown her by the filk community this past week. I am staying with her at least through tomorrow, thanks to Gary and Sheryl Ehrlich, who lent me their guest bedroom for the duration, and Mary will be installed at her sister's place in Mount Vernon, VA tomorrow or Thursday until the docs think she can handle a flight back to Atlanta, which will be no earlier than Saturday. Hopefully the couple who own the Marietta print shop at which I have been working the past two months will continue to be understanding and patient, and I will still have a job waiting when I return...

Anyone wishing to visit Mary in hospital or at her sister's place is welcome for short visits; phone calls are also welcome if short, as she is still somewhat weak. Email me for the address to send cards/flowers or the direct phone line.

Wow. I'm glad she's doing better, I'll have to try calling this week.

Sorry to hear Mary needed surgery, but I'm glad she's doing well.

It's also nice to hear you're employed.

Thanks for posting!

I'm glad she's doing better, and I hope she makes a speedy recovery.

My anotomical perceptions are obviously askew, as I would have thought that a robin's egg would take up pretty much the whole of the gallbladder.
