Obama Administration adopts Bush Régime argument against allowing evidence on rendition, torture to be aired in court

Obama himself, in primetime press conference, dodges question on Leahy proposal for Bush years "truth commission"
Strike two.
Obama expected to appoint Chamber of Commerce lobbyist as gatekeeper to the federal judiciary
Strike three. Yer out.
This guy is just Clinton redux, exactly as I feared last November. Not even 100 days in, he's betraying his promises left and right (mostly right)...and those of us who are real progressive Democrats need to start putting major pressure on him NOW to make him reverse these choices.

What a shame. He really does have a big mandate from the people and a large quotient of momentum and openness to big changes. For him to go the milktoast route and suck up to the middle and cow tow to the pigs who fucked this country up so bad in so many criminal ways is a really big giant shame. He could change history and turn this country around and we desperately need him to.

Date: 2009-02-10 08:18 am (UTC)If he does turn out to be Clinton redux, that's still a world better than Bush rebushed. If he turns out to be another Blair, then yes, you have my sympathy, we all got hosed.

Date: 2009-02-11 06:58 am (UTC)In fact, if you ever thought that he would consistently -- or even fairly often -- Do The Right Thing without major pressure from those of us who voted for him, you were wrong.
And you should have done so months ago, because he as much as said people were going to have to press for change. To paraphrase FDR, "I agree. Now go out there and make me do it."
But you should be able to console yourself that in the first three weeks of his presidency he has done more good than George Bush did in eight years, if by nothing else than reversing a lot of Duh-bya's executive orders. Granted, of course, that's a pretty low bar.
