If my hometown team (see userpic above) were in the game today, I might have some marginal interest in the annual nationwide orgy of consumerism, ritualized violence and gluttony that is Super Bowl Sunday. But since they, as usual, have come nowhere within transporter range of playing for the Lombardi Trophy, I am finding other ways to amuse myself today.

This has the unwelcome side-effect of making me feel even more self-isolated than I normally do, with so many others participating in a shared group event around me. And talking to the Songbird over the phone only gets me so far in alleviating that feeling.

So...since I know there must be at least a few other pro-football apostates on my f-list, what are you doing to escape the hoopla? Are you just hanging out at home, getting stuff done, at a con (lucky bastich!), or doing something else satisfying? Me, I'm planning nothing more stimulating than doing laundry tonight. (Laundry may not be more exciting than watching a football game, but at least I understand the rules better.)

I may go out shopping. It should be the best day for it because everyone will be inside watching the game. No idiots on the roads! Yay!!! :)

You understand the rules of laundry? Wow, my (slightly soiled) hat's off to you.

I'm a football fan and a media maven. At the moment, I'm undecided wether to drive way out to a friend's Superbowl party or walk across the street to see it at a sports bar. I'd rather be with friends, but do I really want to be on the road after the game? At least the bar will have prizes. And I can leave whenever I want.

And yes, I'll be watching the commercials. This year promises to be less spectacular than usual, thanks to the Bush Depression, and I don't have the 3D glasses, but I need to pay attention for one of my semi-firm rules about alcohol: Never drink a beer that's been advertised on the Superbowl.

I wish you every bit of fun and do be careful on the road. (Is a maven the same thing as a macher? I'm still no expert on Yiddish...)

I still have a few hours to decide, but I'm probably going to laze out and walk across the street.

I went food shopping yesterday, to a local Costco and then Trader Joe's... I was amazed at how many people were in the stores, especially TJ's. When I was checking out with a *very full* shopping cart, a man commented that he wanted to come to *MY* party... it was then that I realized it was Super Bowl Sunday today... *face palm* I don't do televised sports since my first husband was so into them and left me a golf, football widow... I *like sports, but have so many other things I'd rather be doing. I explained that it was my regular shopping (I go to stock up once or twice a month)...

I am going blues dancing this afternoon and plan to spend the evening in Camberville with a friend or two. :-)

*hug*

Hmmm

Sci fi has a Ghost hunters marathon on which I may catch parts of.

Then again if you aren't afraid of cute overload the Puppy Bowl is fun to watch.

Love the icon btw.. I hope to see the Saints in da beeg game before I'm in an old folks home..*smirks*

I'm avoiding the game itself, but watching the pregame because of Keith Olbermann. I have no interest in the game. So I'm sitting here at froggy's place, battling a sore throat and walking around the neighborhood, waiting for froggy to come home from a krewe meeting.

I may get something to eat later on, but not sure about that yet.

My dad's having a party back at my place, but I'm avoiding that, too. Too many smokers.

Hm. May have to see the pregame, now, along with the mandatory halftime concert by Mr. Springsteen and the almost-complete E Street Band (RIP Danny Phantom). Thanks for the heads-up.

Housemate will be watching stupid game.
I have (over the years) even managed to avoid learning the rules of this dumb game.
I do, however find stories of brain damage among the folks who play it to be quite amusing.
Maybe they should call it "The Finger Bowl" as in "How many fingers am I holding up?"

Oh, that's today? I hadn't realized it until I saw your post. This morning I finished off my first Bujold novel (Shards of Honor), now I'm at the library catching up on email and LJ, and tonight I'll be trying to get the chords right to accompany a friend's anti-buckthorn anthem.

There's no need to actually avoid the Hyperbole er, Superbole er, Superbowl.

I'm not overwhelmingly interested in the game, but will likely have it on in the background. I do insist on seeing The Boss at halftime (because if he shames our name, we shall be peeved :-)

Today's more of the same: cleaning, cleaning, and arithmetic (preliminary tax numbers). And transcoding music files so I can archive the lossless ones and possibly set up an index of what I actually have.

Best part of the day: it's officially BASEBALL SEASON! :-)

As far as I'm concerned, the Super Bowl makes official what began about a week after the end of the World Series :-)

Spring training doesn't start for a couple of weeks yet, but while NBA hoops is okay, it's baseball that ranks just after books (which ranks after sex, sleep, and good food, in some order :-) for the best things in life that aren't one's family and friends.

Dearly though I love and admire John Cleese, our own George Carlin beat him to the punch by at least three decades with the definitive comedy routine about American-style "football":

Actually, I spent the weekend at Steve and Anna's and didn't even recall it was That Day until I saw a sign in front of a pub this afternoon. What can I say, I'm unamerican.

I fell asleep watching a new Miss Marple movie myself, but woke up in time for the last few minutes of the game, which were exciting even for someone like me who dislikes football and has never bothered to learn the rules.

My office moved this weekend. I got home at 5:15, took at nap at 6, woke up at 9, ate a very light dinner, went back to bed at 10:20 and slept until 5:15 AM

1: I didn't even know who was playing until Craig Ferguson's monologue on Friday night.

2: Craig Ferguson picked the winner.

3: I watched Cold Case then fell asleep in the middle of Sense and Sensibilities instead of seeing the game.

4: Isn't there a website that shows just the Super Bowl commercials? That's the only part of the ritual I would have been interested in anyway.
