thatcrazycajun: (birthday)

I was still in a funk yesterday, so I didn't post or read anything at all on LJ. But I should have at least acknowledged the birthday of one of the more beautiful and talented people on my friends list, [livejournal.com profile] cacie. Gods above and below, I can still remember her as a wee tyke blowing whole filk rooms away with her sweet child's voice...and now she's all grown up (boy howdy, is she!) and a bona-fide recording artist with a MySpace page and her very own CD, a copy of which you can buy here.

Thanks for making me feel hopelessly inadequate, inappropriately proud and exceedingly dirty-old-mannish all at the same time, kiddo, and I hope your birthday was a great one.

I think it was the 1982 worldcon (in Chicago) where I first heard her sing. She was about 7 years old at the time and she completely knocked me flat -- a true professional and a wonderful gift to the world and the audience. Cacie, if you are reading this, you are somebody I want to "friend" -- and with any luck, sometime in the next year I will wind up money ahead to by the CD. (I'm Nate Bucklin -- started going on stage at the age of 9, somehow grew up with a weak voice rather than a great one, known for writing lyrics and for playing guitar, electric bass, keyboards and drums to compensate for the singing. And Cacie, you and I really are part of the same community. I used to say I was a mainstream songwriter who happened to be a fan, but back at the 1989 worldcon I finally completely locked into the filk community and have always been glad I did.)
