This YouTube video (the first of three parts; the other two are linked alongside) is taken from a television special aired some years back called Hollywood Salutes Easter Seals. It features Ricardo Montalbán, who passed away yesterday at 88, being awarded the disability-services organization's first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award for his efforts on its behalf.
Watch it and you will see all the things you remember about him—his famous films and shows, his mellifluous voice, his unforgettable portrayals..and learn some things you may not have known about him, such as the fact that he lived most of his life in unending pain from a birth defect aggravated by a spine-damaging fall off a horse while filming in the 1940s. Introduced by old friends and co-stars John Forsythe, Loni Anderson and Cyd Charisse (a marvelous lady we also lost not too long ago), the video includes long-forgotten gems of acting and song from Ricardo's past and pre-recorded salutes from fellow Hispanic actors Edward James Olmos and Antonio Banderas, among others. It serves as a fitting tribute, ending with one last message from the man himself about the importance of living fully "this adventure called life." No one can question that he indeed did so, and with gusto.
