thatcrazycajunYes, I know it's maudlin and overwrought and sappy as all hell; tell someone who gives a flying frak. This wrote itself on me half an hour ago as I was viewing the growing list of remembrances of the lady who was like family to millions of Star Trek fans, who died yesterday. Melody still under development; hopefully will be singable by GAFilk.

Scotty is sounding his bagpipes today;
"Flowers of the Forest" and "Amazing Grace" play.
All through the stars, Starfleet's millions observe
A moment of silence wherever they serve.
Somewhere in the timestream, a blue box goes by
And a Time Lord and friends bow their heads, softly cry;
From inside Cheyenne Mountain out to Pegasus space
Eyes close in remembrance of her smiling face.
As the Babylon station spins slow in the night
An aging Centauri lifts a glass to her light;
And across our own planet, fans recall still with joy
How she helped make this magic that so many enjoy.
Behind each great man there's a woman, they'd say;
She was never behind, but beside all the way.
The Great Bird could never have flown quite so far
If not for his wife as his sweet guiding star.
As a nurse, a commander, a mother and more
She went with them boldly where none had before;
Even with just her voice, she could make us have fun--
She forever will be in our hearts Number One.
For building the dream, and for keeping it strong
And for giving us others of his right along;
For the love shown to all, from the old to the young,
Her life is saluted and her song will be sung.
And if there's any justice in this universe,
She's with Gene and the rest somewhere better, not worse.
No thanks are enough for what to you we owe --
Sleep sweetly, Aunt Majel; you're loved more than you know.
