Barron's magazine, in its print and online versions, is bucking the current media meme of "Republicans are doomed" and predicting that voter discontent over Iraq and Foley-gate won't be enough to offset the GOP's fundraising edge over the Democrats and the generally strong economy, and that Hastert & Co. will keep control of at least one house of Congress. (A rising tide lifts all yachts, donchaknow.) I suppose one could expect a business publication to focus solely on the money as the deciding factor, but they claim only three failures to accurately predict congressional election outcomes using their formula. They insist that, at worst, the GOP majority will slim dramatically to a bare plurality. But even that is enough for some serious Democratic monkey-wrenching of the Bush Regime's agenda, eh? So it's good news either way.

As always, we shall see what happens.

Still got a ways to November 7. Lots could happen.

It's funny, tho. Back in September, I could feel things turning for the Republicans until the Foley thing blew up. I'm not feeling that now.

No, a bare plurality for the Republicans is NOT better than their current majority, as far as the Democrats are concerned. The majority party gets to chair committees and set agendas; they determine which paths the Congress will follow, and the Republicans have proved repeatedly that their agenda has nothing to do with finding truth or fixing the crap coming from the White House.

Moreover, given the continued unwillingness of the Dems to fight from a minority position even with the tools they have, they really, REALLY need to win a majority in at least one house.

I recommend following http://www.electoral-vote.com for latest polls; they've been all over the place, some ways, recently. But they show the Dems taking the House, pretty consistently.
