For those who have been anxiously awaiting the promised photographs I took on my trip to Kenya last month (see previous posts labeled "My Kenyan Odyssey"), I have finally gotten all of them uploaded online for viewing. I had planned to use Flickr, but since that website restricts total file space used for holders of non-paid (free) accounts, I decided to try Photobucket instead. Its interface is almost entirely Flash®-based, which kinda bugs me a bit; but at least they are willing to take the whole megillah (which my Jewish friends inform me is an ancient Yiddish word meaning "buttload") and not charge me for it.
The pictures are now there, in several albums grouped by sites I visited. The first is the pics of the Songbird's palatial Nairobi home and of the local Giraffe Centre and its accompanying bird/plant sanctuary, operated by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife. This album's page also contains links to the other albums I have set up for the Kenya pictures, in a side menu, and there are options to view the shots either in grid or slideshow formats. Here is the URL:

Be advised that not all of the photos have been given names or descriptions as yet; this is a time-consuming and tedious process, and I am trying to get it done as fast as I can make myself slog through it. However, all the pictures should be in chronological order, i.e., the order in which they were taken. If you have any questions, feel free to post here or e-mail. And I will be bringing them to GAFilk in January for anyone who prefers a live, narrated slideshow. (Sneaky plug: Got a membership yet?)
Let me know what you think of these pics in any event, and please accept my most profuse and sincere apologies for keeping you all waiting so long. And should you find yourself taken aback by the large quantity, I commend to you the immortal words of that legendary sage, Bugs Bunny: "Always remember...you asked for it!"

Date: 2008-11-16 02:37 pm (UTC)"Megillah" technically means "scroll", particularly the one containing the story of Esther and Haman (which is the basis of the Jewish holiday of Purim). The use as of "buttload" is slang, though well-established and comprehensible, especially in "the whole megillah".
(And yes, if you want the usericon, please feel free to scarf and spread it.)
