And thank you, Senator John McCain, for having more class than just about everyone in that ballroom with you late Tuesday night as you gave a model concession speech. Ironically, if you'd stayed that classy person through the last months since your nomination instead of panicking, pandering to your party's base and letting your supporters run amok, you might well have avoided needing to give such a speech.

And last but by no means least, thank you to each and every one of you who worked so hard for the campaign, in the Obama organization and others, for proving my darkest fears wrong and making it happen despite the misgivings of those of us for whom Obama wasn't "liberal enough" or "white enough" or "experienced enough" or "presidential enough" to win. And to all of you who joined me in voting for him, whether you worked or not. Our party and our country owe you, big-time.

if I remember aright, it was during a Democratic administration that Rush launched his career and started earning the Big Buckz:
Coining terms like "femi-nazi," (which still means to me, since I grew up in an un-liberated subculture, "any woman who dares to work outside the home").
Spewing exaggerations that go all the way to lying, and stirring up hatred with a side reference to God (another lie: that God would endorse such !$^&*@#)!

If Rush had to spend the next 4 years complaining how John McCain is just not conservative enough, I don't think he'd get nearly the audience size that he's droolingly anticipating now. Now he's REALLY got something to b*tch about, so he gets to stay in business.

I've never seen such an outpouring of love and joy after an election.
Something is wickedly right about this.
I feel a great weight off my shoulders knowing the neocons are no longer running things, and may never run them again (hopes!).

And though I am sad for mccain, and find him likable when he's not letting other people run his brain, and I wish he had run a better campaign, more dignified, less destructive... i am relieved that a man who can joke about bombing Iran is not running things at this point in time. or ever.

I would not put George Will in the same category as Rush, et al. He is a thoughtful guy who has not hesistated to criticize Republicans with the same vehemence as Dems.

I do agree with Colbert that he, Peggy Noonan, and the other intellectual conservatives fleeing the party bear some responsibility for helping create its current form. But I am happy to allow George Will to defect, whereas Sean Hannity should be staring in a new reality series called "Inside Gitmo"
