thatcrazycajun: (filk music)

As half my friends list prepares to head for, is en route to or already at the Ohio Valley Filk Fest, I sit half a world away and will be spending at least half the weekend in trans-Atlantic travel. Who else can't be there? Come on in and bring your favorite songs and munchies. I'll start things off with a good, strong pot of genuine Kenyan coffee, justly famed the world over, and a rousing rendition of that timeless NESFA Hymnal classic, "Woad."

Originally, the plan was to go... but then it turned out Michael had a schedule conflict due to a surprise family commitment, so he would have had to fly back from Columbus to Philadelphia on Sun. morning at o-dark-hundred, and I felt like I couldn't afford the time to drive out 6-8 hours each way. *sigh, shrug*

Am rather immersed in a immense writing project, so not likely to be doing music myself even if I were a musician. Ok if I just sit in a corner with my laptop and listen to you all? :) I'll donate my new favorite snack food: Guiltless blue corn chips and reduced fat guacamole from the nearest Whole Foods. :)

(I have not completely given up my other two favorite munchies, pretzels & onion dip and Cool Ranch Doritoes, but I'm trying to eat slightly healthier.)

Music I'd like to hear? Well, until he issues "Or You Can Play The Banjo" on CD (when I saw him at OVFF last, he *promised* it would be on the next CD), how about a cheerful carol of Bob's Dog Obedience School and Taxidermy Shop? Other than that, pick your five favorite uptempo Joe Jackson songs and I can probably sing along with half of them....

I'm not going. I'm not a filker, either. Had to scrape up money just to go to a Toastmasters conference in Baton Rouge next weekend. But I'll take a cup of Kenyan coffee, with extra cream and extra sugar.

I like my coffee like I like my men: sweet.

I'll go with the kettle chips and a good stiff french onion dip, and an extended jam on Heather Alexander's "Chickies in the House" (from her songbook). No singing required, for those who aren't in shape to do so. :)

(No, I'm going to Ory next month, and then to Conflikt... )

Well, if someone's bringing onion dip anyway ;) , then I'll splurge for two bags of pretzels (one regular, one spelt, and both salted) while I'm at that Whole Foods. :)

Add a bag of green-apple flavoured Jelly Bellies. My voice wouldn't be at full strength anyway due to the cold germs in my sinus cavities.

I can throw a couple of recordings of people who are here in if that will help... :) (I may have 1-2 permissions to share recordings post con (or maybe during con) on filk archive. Yes, I am asking...)

Also, FYI. I figured I would spread word. Kathy Mar is doing a coast to coast tour next summer. (Info on her web page.) She will have a new CD (2 disc) and a video out!

I'm not going either. 1) I don't think I'd be welcome there; and 2) I'm feeling totally out of sorts, being in the third day of a major dizziness attack (it got so bad that I went to the VA Emergency Room at 11:45 last night and didn't get home until 3:15 AM).

Songs? Fred Small's "Everything Possible" and Aislinn's "Spiral Dance."

Well, you were virtually here - I sang Singer's Secret in open filk. While some in the room knew it, I think it was new to Tim and Annie and they seemed to enjoy it. Might have been new to Dave C too.

I wish the hotel had coffee like you describe!

Awwww...You did THAT one for me? Blessings upon you and thanks; I'm honored and flattered. (Even if I'd been there, you might have had to do it for me anyhow; bronchitis still has its clammy, snotty hands on my throat.)

Late arrival, sorry! Let me add a large fresh veggie platter to the munchies and some Russell Stover's chocolates from their outlet store (yep, they may not *look* perfect, but they taste just the same). I'll request "1000 Songs" and "Grandma Went Out With a Bang." And I'm managing to smile even though the other two members of my family made it to OVFF (that's what I get for being younger and not being able to retire yet!). *goes off to drown sorrows in a handful of pretzels*
