Decided to bail on this month's Middle-Earth Rocketry Council meeting tonight because of a rare visit to The City Too Busy to Hate by an old favorite songstress of mine, Marcia Ball. (Here's her website if you want to know more about her and her music.) I haven't seen her perform live in close to a couple of decades now, since my dear late friend Joey Grillot took me to a show of hers in New Orleans at the legendary Tipitina's—the original, at the corner of Napoleon and Tchoupitoulas. It's been way too long, and since I'm here and don't know when we'll both be in the same town again, I'm taking a trip down to the Variety Playhouse in Little Five Points (where last I ventured a few months ago to see Paul & Storm).
If you like balls-out, full-tilt boogie-woogie piano playing combined with a God-sent singing voice (both of which are hers), you should listen to this lady's latest CD, Peace, Love & BBQ, or any of her other albums available through her site or on iTunes. And if you've never heard this kind of music, you need to. Expect a review sometime tomorrow.
