b) Associate you with something -- a fandom, song, color, photo, etc.
c) Tell you something I like about you.
d) Tell you a memory I have of you. (If we've never met in meatspace AKA real life, this may be a tricky one...)
e) Ask you something I've wanted to know about you
f) Tell you my favorite userpic from your list
g) In return, you need to post this on your own LJ.

Date: 2008-09-17 05:22 am (UTC)*My* talent for filk writing? Of the two of us, mister, you're the one with the Pegasus.
I bought my 6-string guitar and a couple teach-yourself books in 1980 and slowly taught myself the basics. Lessons would have been useful; I sometimes think of taking some even now but given how little I can play anymore there's really not much point.
Re the "more sci-fi than Sci Fi" icon: I've got mixed feelings about that one. On the one hand it's both snarky & true; on the other, I'm one of those aging curmudgeons who insists that anyone who calls it that instead of SF immediately establishes that they don't know what they're talking about. Which has in fact been true of the Skiffy Channel for most of its life.
See my meme turn below.
My Turn at the Meme
Date: 2008-09-17 05:45 am (UTC)b) Interesting that you associate me primarily with X-Files fandom. I think of you first as a Doctor Who fan.
c) Your wit (and that sweet Southern drawl).
d) I'll never forget the look on your face when I introduced you to
e) BBQ: pork or beef? And what's your definition of the perfect BBQ sauce?
f) Tough choice, but I think it has to go to your Dandelion Conspiracy icon.
g) All done!
Re: My Turn at the Meme
Date: 2008-09-18 01:14 am (UTC)Huh. My first fandom actually was (and remains) STAR TREK, but DW would have to be a close second. (I came in during the Tom Baker era, so he's my fave Doctor, with Pete Davison right after.)
>>c) Your wit (and that sweet Southern drawl).<<
I have a drawl? And after I spent so many years of childhood trying to imitate the flat Midwestern tones of TV announcers...all for naught.
>>e) BBQ: pork or beef? <<
Yes.
>>And what's your definition of the perfect BBQ sauce?<<
The one that coats your arms to the elbows when you're finished eating.
Re: My Turn at the Meme
Date: 2008-09-18 03:30 pm (UTC)Ditto and ditto. Except that I never really warmed to Davison. Not his fault; the mostly unlikeable companions and general decline in script quality had a lot to do with it.
And Tom is still my fave too, though Tennant is gaining fast.

Date: 2008-09-17 03:04 am (UTC)b) I always associate you in my mind with the game you host at GAFilk, "My Filk."
c) I like that you have at least as twisted a sense of humor as mine.
d) I remember seeing you give my Songbird a backrub and her enjoying it immensely.
e) What was your major in college and which one did you attend?
f) I think I shall be swiping your "Sisyphus" userpic.

e) Where do you live?
f) The "VORLON" license plate pic.

Date: 2008-09-17 07:45 am (UTC)I had the VORLON plate from '96-'06, when I could no longer afford to keep it.

Date: 2008-09-18 01:28 am (UTC)b) Dementia fandom, of course! (And filk, which overlaps, as you know.)
c) Your youthful enthusiasm and your turns of phrase.
d) The night I met you, you got up in front of a roomful of strangers at your very first filk circle and sang a composition of your own. That took more balls than I had in my first circle, back in the dim mists of antiquity.
e) When are you coming to Atlanta again?
f) Has to be the "wildest dream/worst nightmare" pic.

c) The ways in which you haven't changed much...and the ways in which you have, for the better.
d) The day I first met you, at Vul-Con VII in New Orleans, 1980. You were in the dealer's room looking a bit lost, as I recall. I somehow worked up the nerve to speak to you, and the rest, as they say, is hysterical.
e) How many of "the old gang" do you still hear from?
f) Penelope Pitstop.

c) Your willingness to go out of your way for friends and fellow fans, one-on-one and as a con/club volunteer.
d) The priceless look of stunned delight on your face when I showed up on Saturday morning of my very first GAFilk, totally unexpectedly (for both of us; I had not planned on coming, but the Songbird talked me into it).
e) Is there any sort of exotic cuisine you still haven't tried and want to?
f) Since you only have the one, this means I default to it. (Get busy and put up some more userpics, man! People know you by the images you choose.)
g) Your turn.

Date: 2008-09-18 01:46 am (UTC)b) Banjo pickers, of course!
c) The intelligence you display in your posting.
d) Reading your filk "The Loneliest Pro at the Con" and recalling a time I was put on a panel for some subject or other at a small con and only one person showed up. Been there, done that, burned the negatives.
e) How many types of musical instrument can you play? How many do you own?
f) Your default userpic, with the dandelion banjo.
g) Your turn.

Date: 2008-09-25 05:52 am (UTC)Intelligence -- thank you! Some days I feel more intelligent than others, of course.
Musical instruments -- At one time or another in my life I have probably either owned or played about two dozen instruments, of every major instrumental group except brass (never could get the hang of the mouthpiece). The instrments range from the familiar (violin, clarinet, guitar, blues harp) to the slightly less popular (banjo, tin whistle, recorder, ukulele, baritone uke) to the downright oddball (bowed psaltry, kalimba and khaen -- a Laotian mouth organ). Lately I've spent most of my time on the banjo because I figure after mumbledy-ump years doing music, I ought to get good at playing at least one instrument.
Eventually I may get the poll up on my LJ. I don't update it as often as I should.

Date: 2008-09-19 08:47 pm (UTC)b) I associate you most with the Songbird, since I met you through her.
c) Your prolific talent and creativity, which shames me as a supposed professional artistic type.
d) Chatting with you and SB in the parking lot at St. Vincent's.
e) What kind of artistic training, if any, have you had? Formal or informal? Or self-taught?
f) I think I like the one of you in the red hoodie best.
g) Your turn.

Date: 2008-09-20 12:28 am (UTC)b)I primarily associate you with the filk community and as being a brilliant songwriter....and also as SB's partner.
c)Your candor in writing your posts and openness. I also admire your command of the written word immensely - YOUR creativity is amazing! And to have graphic skills that actually land decent paying work - and oh! to have lived and worked in NYC!Way cool!
d)chatting with you two at St.Vincent's on the front porch of the rectory at a reception for something, and also taking pictures of you and Mary next to a Christmas tree, all dressed up, at the Marriott in Philly - was it Philcon?
e)do you have a favorite recipe you would be willing to share from your Cajun roots?
f)the photo of you is quite nice....
I have a lot of formal art training but where art is concerned that can be overrated. Some of my best work was self taught. My charcoal drawings were inspired by an artist friend of mine who worked as a guard at the art museum when I worked there. My long ago pencil drawings totally evolved in isolation. Anything I've done with paint comes from my education. My partner Cal only finished one semester of art school and is one of the most creative artists I know - he breaks all the "rules" and has been rewarded all his life for that!
