This article by Newsweek's tech columnist calls out Apple Inc. for being the new Microsoft and Apple CEO Steve Jobs for being a Bill Gates wannabe...who actually is nearing that point, thanks more to his company's hegemony over digital music than their onetime flagship product, a computer and operating system that still only commands only 11% of the US market for consumer PCs.

Since a certain dear friend of mine on the f-list was ragging me just the other day right here about Apple's monopolistic behavior, I instantly thought of him. Let no one ever accuse this longtime Mac-head of not being fair-minded or open to the sad truth.

Thanks for the link. I'm certainly not the only person who dislikes Apple for the reasons I do. I'm glad that someone in the MSM has expressed the viewpoint -- and I don't expect it to slow either the company's attempt to be Your Music Source nor people from buying either iPods or Macs.

Thanks for that amusing pic; that's the most inventive version I've yet seen of the old "MacQuarium" that people used to build with their broken-down "toaster" Mac and Mac Plus units. (A window into the tank replaced the 9-inch monitor.) It hadn't occurred to me that someone could strip off the lucite covering of the Mac Cube and do that, and it should have.

Public corporations have a problem. They are legally bound to maxmize shareholder value. If they were humans they could be committed for sociopathy. Apple's behavior surprises me not; it *has* to try to take over the world. To do otherwise invites death by lawsuit.

I think the icon is enough further commentary. :)
