Actor Don S. Davis, familiar to millions of Stargate SG-1 fans as General George S. Hammond, Stargate Command's original CO—and to millions more fans of The X-Files as William Scully, father of Special Agent Dana—died of a massive cardiac infarction last night. Already suffering from health problems that had caused him to leave the series midway through its 10-year run on Showtime and Sci Fi, Davis was nonetheless beloved by fans of the show and will be sorely missed. He passed away at his Canadian home in Gibsons, BC at the age of 65; the Vancouver Sun has an obituary here.
My heart, thoughts and prayers are with his family, his former co-stars and friends in this most difficult hour. Thank you, sir, for giving not one but two of our favorite shows such warm yet tough characters...and for a sterling example of leadership. (And someone had better inform Master Bra'tac that this time, Hammond of Texas truly has fallen.)
