Another good news/bad news weekend

The bad news you already know: I ain't gonna be at Contata this weekend, and neither is the Songbird. Just isn't workable logistically or financially for either of us. Anyone else who isn't, feel free to post here and join the pity party. (And it's especially galling now that I've heard none other than Christine Lavin herownself is attending to join in the super-secret fundraising thingie for filkertom's medical expenses. Grrr.)

Now for the good news: Since SB has managed to talk her boss into letting her extend her stay Stateside another few days and work from the Atlanta offices of CDC, she's flying down here tomorrow morning and the two of us are driving to the beach for what remains of the weekend (most likely Tybee Island). Much as I wish we both could be in Parsippany with our friends, an unexpected beach weekend with my sweetie is a pretty damned good consolation prize.

Me? I closed on the new house today, so tonight is Summer Solstice, tomorrow is packing, packing and more packing, then hanging out w/ a friend tomorrow night (at a hotel with a pool, which will be a welcome relief after all the packing!). Sunday, umm... probably more packing. :-)

A fairly relaxing weekend, which will include a visit to a local Barnes & Noble where Robert Sawyer, Nancy Kress and Nick DiChario are reading, signing and jointly launching (in the U.S.) their latest books.

My next con will be the wondrous Confluence.

Well, I was supposed to staff an NWTA this weekend, but it was cancelled. So I'm going to help the folks at my church with some exterior improvements -- caulking, removing nails, replacing them with screws. I'll also be celebrating dragon_pet's birthday at one of my favorite local Mexican eateries. And, of course, on Sunday, I'll be with The Girl.

Say hello to the Songbird for me. And don't do anything I wouldn't enjoy, OK? ;-)
