Both for myself and anyone else who wants to keep up, I have compiled a list of all the feature films coming out this summer that have at least a chance of getting me in the door. Most are SF/fantasy, but one or two oddities found their way in...and any of the August ones could be pre-empted by my traveling to Nairobi to see you-know-who (stay tuned). Each will be marked through once I've seen it, and I will try to avoid posting spoilers.

May
02: Iron Man (Kicks at least 17 distinct varieties of ass; see previous post.)
09: Speed Racer (Not nearly as much ass kicked here, but better than most of the bad reviews it's gotten; I found it true to the spirit of the original and not at all as visually "headache-inducing" or narratively "incoherent" as some have said.)
16: Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
22: Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
30: Sex and the City

June
06: Kung Fu Panda (judging from the trailer, it looks every bit as silly as the title sounds)
13: The Incredible Hulk
20: Get Smart
27: WALL*E

July
02: Hancock (new Will Smith sci-fi film)
11: Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Journey to the Center of the Earth (3D)
18: The Dark Knight (featuring the late Heath Ledger's first—and, as it fell out, last—performance as the Joker)
25: The X-Files: I Want to Believe

August
01: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
08: Fly Me to the Moon (CGI insects in 3D hitch a ride on Apollo 11)
15: Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Lucasfilm's first all-CGI entry in the series)
29: Babylon A.D. (no relation to Babylon 5, alas)

And that's pretty much it for genre and cartoon films until November, when the studios gear up for the holiday season.

What's on your movie calendar for the next few months?

I'll probably see M. Night Shyamalan's "The Happening." I really liked "Lady in the Water," but wasn't impressed with "Signs" or "The Village."

I'll probably see Indiana Jones and Dark Knight. None of the others really interest me.

If I'm lucky I'll get to see ONE flick. Speed Racer would be first on the list, although from the reviews, I might defer to Indiana Jones, Get Smart, or Number 5WALL*E.

Likely Narnia 2, Indy 4, Wall*E and that's about it. The rest can wait till DVD for the few that might actually interest me.

Dark Knight and Indy for sure. Wall*E probably. Hellboy, Caspian and X-Files maybe.

And Hancock gets a wait and see, but also a special bit of applause it's one of very, very few films due this summer not based on something else. Not that I have anything against good adaptations and sequels. But it's good to see something rather new.

Iron Man was excellent, Speed Racer good but not so excellent. Prince Caspian is a given - though from the trailers there are some changes from the book.

Not bothered about Get Smart or X-Files, but the rest of my list looks pretty similar to yours.

I'd be interested in several of these, especially Narnia, Indy, Hellboy, & Dark Knight. I'll point out, the movie theater below our house is right at a Barnes & lots of other stuff. Our locale offers other exotic amenities like a bowling alley 1/2 mile down the road, Chick Fil-A milkshakes [coffee caramel for a limited time], thrift stores, & my garage [aka Ali Baba's Cave]. Or, we could always get together somewhere nearer you, if you're interested; we're fairly flexible.

Also of possible interest, is the Keltic Kudzu concert next Saturday. From the Atlanta Celts list on yahoo [recommended as a general source of local Celtic news]:

Come on out and bring a lawn chair for a great FREE concert by Keltic Kudzu Memorial Day weekend . Gather afterwards for a pint at the just opened Irish Bred Pub (http://www.myspace.com/irishbredpub_douglasville)!
Saturday, May 24, 2008, 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.
O'Neal Plaza in Historic Downtown Douglasville, presented by the Cultural Arts Center (www.artsdouglas.org), 8652 Campbellton Street. Douglasville, Georgia 30134. 770-949-ARTS (2787)

Keltic Kudzu rocks & needs to put out more cds. Speaking of which... ;)
