A new feature: Match Game 2008
Apr. 25th, 2008 07:18 pmHow many of you remember a 1970s CBS game show called Match Game? (Originally the title was followed by the year, as in "Match Game '76.") For those who might have missed out, YouTube has a fairly representative clip.
The questions were often structured such that the blank could be filled by something suggestive, which I suspect was entirely intentional given that the show had a more *ahem* adult atmosphere, being aired in the late afternoons, than some of the other game shows it shared the daypart with, such as its network-mate The Price Is Right. (That one had its racy moments, too, but they were usually edited out before airing.)
With this inspiration, I've decided to toss in a Match Game-like question every so often and see who fills in the blank, and with what. Here's your first one:
Patty the Party Girl said, "I never should have gotten so drunk last night. I woke up this morning and found three _________s in my bed!"
And while we're at it, what present-day celebs would you like to see on a new version of the show? I'd nominate Leslie Jordan of Will & Grace fame for the Charles Nelson Reilly Memorial Chair (third from left, top row).

Date: 2008-04-26 12:40 am (UTC)I often wondered, at the time, how some of those people were famous. I had never heard of some of them, outside of that show. Now that we have the interwebz, I can find out, easily; without spending years of research viewing. :-)
So, my answer would probably be *Clowns*
Celebrity Guests?
How about Candice Bergen in Brett's seat.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman in CNR's chair
Charlie or Martin Sheen in Richard Dawson's chair.
Some guests like Tom Hanks, Don Johnson, Catherine Bell, John Tesh, Mark Harmon, and ????

Date: 2008-04-26 07:20 am (UTC)Charles Nelson Reilly's seat would have to be taken by someone like Eddy Izzard, who would and could say ANYTHING when he felt like it.

which is why she woke up on the floor next to her bed. No room for Patty the Party Girl in her own bed!

Date: 2008-04-26 08:38 pm (UTC)And I, too, absolutely adored that show. From Gene Rayburn's risque charm right through Richard Dawson's roguishness, it was like a glimpse into a cool adult world where people were snarky yet playful, naughty yet nice.
Brett Sommers and Charles Nelson Reilly were both great, of course, but the truly underrated one for me was Fannie Flagg, who was stuck sitting right in front of Richard (so she knew almost anything she did would get trumped if the construing could be at all naughty) and who wasn't quite starlet/ingenue enough for him to set up and flirt with at the same level he did people like Joyce Brothers, but also she had that awesome Deep South accent and, er, a rather off-beam approach to answers.
