So...who else couldn't afford the money and/or time to be in Ontario or Stony Brook this weekend?

Seein' what as how just about everyone else has writ more here than just raisin' their hand like whut I done:
  • doin' taxes
  • block cleanup. Actually the block cleanup+party was scheduled for NEXT Saturday, but then the city declared a citywide Clean Up Philadelphia Day for today. So next weekend we'll just have the block party.
  • cleaning up the house, or starting to, looking down the calendar at Pesach coming
  • doing a bit more prep for tomorrow afternoon when, over coffee & pastries, I'll be talking with [livejournal.com profile] crankyinfrance's SpecFic writing group about linguistics in sf and linguistics in the real world, more or less
  • studying stuff from my congregation's Envisioning Shabbat workshop
  • and probably more stuff that I'm not letting myself remember just now

I'm not at either of those "there"s.

Instead, I'm home messing about with my AeroGarden, drying the herbs that are growing so fast I can't use them all at once... and putting the ones I've already dried into jars. (I don't use my dehydrator for this.)

Theoretically, I'm also supposed to be unpacking from MidSouthCon, and packing for Penguicon.

But mostly I'm drinking tea. There's always the drinking of fresh mint tea when I mess about with my plants. There's just so much mint! You want some?

Sure! Want to send some down to South Florida?

I'd love basil too if you have it, dried or fresh. I have this wonderful recipe for pesto that calls for a lot of fresh basil. It makes a huge batch, but it's absolutely delicious.

Coincidentally, I'm also drinking tea -- not mint though.

Oh, was this supposed to be a pity party? Oops. Yeah, I'm not at either of those places either. I'm at home, after spending some time out in the lovely weather. Discovered a great wine shop, a fun bead shop (they actually have classes I want to take!), a chocolate shop, a hemp store (meh, not worth the drive), and now I'm about to get some work done that I had left over from the week. Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] fla_sunshine is here, so I guess he's part of the party too.

[livejournal.com profile] jcbemis is at a housefilk today, listening to [livejournal.com profile] filkertom, so she probably doesn't, um, deserve any pity. ;-)

Not gonna be at con, but Tricky Pixie is doing a big show plus drum circle tomorrow, so I'll get half a con's worth anyway.... :)

Do you know if it was recorded, to be sold later [to me]?

No, but they do have a live album recorded earlier, IIRC...

I've been rocking out to that since Conflikt [best driving-to-jury-duty-in-driving-rain music *ever*], but was hoping for more.

I'm glad you got to enjoy it, though.

Well, I'm typing this from a youth hostel in Florence (Italy), so I admit it's gonna be hard for me to feel *too* bad about missing it...

We are broke. I am thrilled for those who are at conventions this weekend, but we will only be going to two cons this year. Baycon, and Tuscon. We have family in Tucson and Tuscon is the only Arizona worth going to these days. The ones in Phoenix have really stagnated to the point where I have just decided not to bother unless it is a Westercon. Baycon is also chosen for "family" reasons. The Bay Area part of the herd being the Bohnhoffs, Seanan, Jim Robinson, Clan Savitzky, and a few others. This will be our only trip this year because the visit to New Zealand to see our daughter and son-in-law wiped us out of vacation time and money.

But now that the Arizona Ren Faire is over, it is nice to have a day just to play catch up. Taxes, bills, yardwork, and hopefully a bit of fun as well. A movie anyway. Last night we got to see Larry Warner and his wife Tisa because we babysat for their five year old son, Grayson. We introduced him to "Back to the Future." Grayson is a smart five year old. He really got into the whole time travel thing. It has been a good weekend so far, even if we can't be filking.

Yo!

FWIW, I'm missing the DAMNations RG as well. Been a while since I ran in those circles.

Me. Even if I could afford it, it was my first day of VOIP/CTP classes. I'd have had to be here either way.

I couldn't go to "I Dance 4 Hope" because I couldn't justify going to Monroe two weekends in a row. I can't be in Ontario or Stony Brook, either...even if I wanted. May I join your pity party?

With the way things are going at work, I figured it'd be best not to go and do anything.

Hi from NY!

I've been at a family thing today...my aunt from Texas is visiting my cousin in NJ, so my sister, her fiance and I headed out there. My cousin from New Hampshire showed up with her SO, and I found that one of my cousins and his wife have moved to Vermont. So now I have even more reasons to visit the Northeast. Also started making plans to visit my aunt in Texas sometime next winter/spring (depending on the schedule for the school year).

Sadly, tomorrow won't be quite as much fun. Have to deal with idiot roomie and something her mom is making her write about how she got into the financial mess she's in. Wish me luck on that.

Lunacon blew my wad, cash-wise, plus $100 in unpaid charges from back when Sam was pretending to pay the phone bill. [livejournal.com profile] sailgersorand I were talking about my driving her to I-Con before Ward went to hospital, so obviously that never happened.

Early this mourning I did dream I was at a con, only it was CONTATA; the hotel had usurped our planned meeting space and left us with a little dining room on the top floor. Merav (our con-chair) was on the cell phone complaining to the management when her battery ran out. A hotel staffer loaned us a cell phone, but I pulled it out of her hand before it exploded. May this only be a dream.
