Do I really have to tell you who Tom Lehrer is? Chances are very high that if you're reading this, the answer is a big, fat resounding NO.

Do I really have to tell you how dearly I treasure his music? Nobody who knows me should need reminding of that, either.

But until now, I had no idea that along with the many, many audio recordings of Tom out there, there are also extant some old videos of everyone's favorite piano-wielding fugitive from Harvard in his heyday and his youthful prime, performing a number of the old demented classics we all know and love before a live audience. One of the peripheral information pieces among that bouquet of videos is the datum that Lehrer's birthday is April 8.

Actually, I'll have to stop pretty quickly; I don't have *that* many of Lehrer's songs in my repertoire. I managed to miss getting a copy of "Too Many Songs by Tom Lehrer" when it got published.

I dunno. A few years back he exhumed some of his math songs to sing to celebrate a colleague's birthday. I have the video...it's freaking brilliant.

I grew up listening to Tom Lehrer. "The Irish Ballad" was one of the first songs my father taught me to sing (explains a lot).

Did you know that Dr. Demento and I went to the same high school? It was 20 years apart, but still.....
