Halle-frickin'-lujah and praise whatever God or gods there be, the leaders of the two opposing factions in Kenya's deadly tribal/political conflict of the past two months have finally put their John Hancocks on a power-sharing deal. BBC News reports the glad tidings here.

This is very, very good news for a whole mess of folks: for me and the Songbird I love, who toils there on behalf of our government; for her colleagues representing US and other foreign agencies who also labor in what have recently become killing fields; and most of all for the Kenyan people and the rest of eastern Africa's nations who depend on the (currently immobilized) port at Mombasa for trade, as well as on peace keeping Kenyan refugees out of their hair.

Now, one hopes and prays devoutly, the tensions between the rival parties and the dominant Luo and Kikuyu tribes can damp down again and people can go about the business of rebuilding. If you believe, pray the deal holds; if not, kindly send whatever positive energies you can thataway to make it so.

"This is not the end; it is not even the beginning of the end...but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."
Sir Winston Churchill, UK Prime Minister, 1942

I thought of you and Songbird when I heard the story on NPR earlier today.

Prayers echoed.
