Looking back at my friends list members' posts so far this nearly-ended month, it seems as though someone on the list is attending (or performing at, or helping run) a convention just about every single week of the year now, so large and fan-inundated has the list become. First GAFilk, then Arisia, then Conflikt, etc., etc., etc. And the same seems to hold further back in time as I review postings from the last few months of '07. And not being able to afford to attend most of them makes it a tad frustrating for me (not that I begrudge any of you your fun; I just envy the living daylights out of ya).

Anyone else notice this trend in my list, or theirs? And what's your con schedule this year like? Just wondering...

Consonance - Maybe - depends on my boss.
Norwescon - Easter weekend

And then really that's it for the year. I am supposed to start Graduate School in the fall (I Hope) so I don't know what will be happening then. (I am just hoping that Graduate School doesn't Conflict with ConFlikt, but I won't know until later.)

I quit going to cons altogether after the last ConFurence. Didn't want to get involved with the politics...but then, pageants are political, too.

Don't have a con schedule this or any other year.

I hadn't noticed anything particularly out of the ordinary. There are of course several known mass pile-ups of cons during the year. January is a prime example. Late March/early April (Lunacon, FKO, I-Con) is another. October/November is another (OVFF, Philcon, Darkover).

My schedule? GAFilk, Boskone, FKO, Balticon, Contata, Confluence, Denvention, OVFF, Darkover. Maybe Philcon, unless we can swing [livejournal.com profile] quartercon.

I used to go to a lot more cons (I think in the early 80s we did about 14 a year) but now finances have really cut back on that number. I got invited to I-con this year, so we're going to that, and in late May we'll go to Balticon, and I'm hoping to be able to afford to get to Midwestcon in late June. I'm also hoping to afford a night at Datclave, 5th Friday weekend in February (I went to the last one in 1980, so I feel like I should make this one & it's unlikely I'll make the next one in 2036), and I want to go to Worldcon, Capclave, and Philcon. Hmm. For someone without a writing income, that's half the number we went to when times were good. Maybe it's good I'm trying to make more money. It helps that the only one of those I need to fly to will be Worldcon. I'll have to check to see if Steven can use his learner's permit out of state to help with some of the driving.

I hear you on the frustration of friends seemingly able to get to cons you can't. I would love to attend Confusion or Minicon again, but unless there's a radical change in my finances, I don't see it happening.

It does seem as if other people get to lots of cons.

My year? I have already been to ConFusion in Detroit. FKO of course; ConCom members really should attend. Possibly Duckon; I am working on that. Probably OVFF. That would be more in a year than ever before for me.

You're not imagining; when [livejournal.com profile] runnerwolf first floated the idea of doing [livejournal.com profile] conflikt, the PTB basically said, "Negative, Mustang, the pattern is full," to which Beth basically said, Goose, it's time to buzz the tower. And, well, Conflikt succeeded beyond our wildest dreams, debuting at #4 with a bullet, and GaFilk did not seem to suffer atall, to hear no less a figure than [livejournal.com profile] mysticfig say it.

But, yes. The calendar is fscking full; anybody else is *going* to step on *someone*. But at the same time, there seem to be filkers enough to go around for everyone.... and I think that's a goodness.

(We got at least two more filk entities that will be Interfilk candidates soon... [livejournal.com profile] bluesmancd, and a girl duo whose names escape me but were just making *everyone*'s jaw drop with how good they are for how new they are... )

Lots of people on my F-List go to cons. Heck, I first met a good chunk of them at conventions. (or ren faires)

As for me, I've already done 2 cons this year (MarsCon VA and Genericon)

Rob was there, and was also at GAFilk, too.

I think this is the first weekend this year we haven't had a con.

Wicked Faire's next weekend...

There's currently 9 more one or both of us are already registered (or planning to be registered) for... Including Dragon*Con, which I fear may be completely sold out already. :-(

This doesn't include cons in September, October and November that haven't quite announced their dates yet...

Con schedule...

Hmm Chad and I are going to Frolicon in March (Frolicon is a party con) and not sure about other events to attend.

DragonCon has gotten too huge for us to enjoy-so we may not go there this year..then again if there is a good guest.

As to other cons, was toying with Monster Bash (something for Classic Monster fans) but the fact that its in Butler Pa (a bit far from the airport) makes it difficult. Other dramas have made me reconsider some fan events.

Eegads, am I becoming old or mundane??? *ponders*

So far, I've been to GAFilk; I expect to get to Boskone, Lunacon, FKO, Balticon, Contata, Confluence, OVFF, Philcon, and Darkover.

Oh yes. Lots of cons I read about, lots of jealousy because I can't go. I expect to get to FenCon, but that's it. Sigh. Heck, Lois Bujold is WorldCon GoH, and I can't go! WAAAHHH.

Getting worse...

I decided on GaFilk and Arisia about 1 1/2 months or less on both.

Upcoming -
Boskone (if I can arrange crash space, being worked on)
Lunacon
I-CON (NY) where I am running filk (this year ONLY.)
Contata (on the concom)
Denvention
Albacon (NY)
OVFF (I had a great time last year!)
Philcon

Next year -
GaFilk
ConFlikt 2 (passing on Arisia so I have a break.)

My conschedule is as usual:
- 2t0nic, i.e. annual UK filk con (I'd better be ;) starting tomorrow (which is why the Conflikt timing sucks lots from my personal pov. I might well have wanted to check out that con otherwise...)
- FilkCONTinental

Maybe one of these years I might make an FKO again...
