So the early reports are that Mormon Boy has won the Republican primary in Nevada today. Given that state's proximity to the home state of his faith, Utah, one should not be terribly surprised; it remains to be seen if he can do as well in states not within shouting distance of the Salt Lake City Tabernacle.
According to Wikipedia's map of GOP results so far, this gives him two states (Michigan being the other). On the other side, their map of Democratic primary/caucus results to date shows the Former First Lady with likewise two states in the bag, despite her freshman Senate colleague Barack Obama's "January Surprise" in Iowa. South Carolina, also having a primary today, is still yet to be called.
Whaddaya think of how the race is shaping up? Or is it too early to make any meaningful judgment before Tsunami Tuesday (which by sheerest coincidence, just happens to be Mardi Gras Day this year)? (Actually, this post is mainly just an excuse to show off the spiffy new userpic I just created; like it?)

Date: 2008-01-20 06:41 am (UTC)Well, since you asked...
Date: 2008-01-20 11:17 am (UTC)I am starting to think the media have overestimated Hillary's popularity overall. The slight percentage difference between HRC and Obama in New Hampshire has been totally ignored by the media. The way they have been spinning it, she won by a landslide and that isn't what happened. I think the Democratic race is going to be a photo finish and Obama is going to keep surprising the moronic pundits. They have underestimated Obama from the start, and then abruptly decided HRC was all washed up after Iowa. Honestly, they are like three year olds with ADD.
This is a big country. Trying to extrapolate the way most of them are doing this far out is just plain silly and we should laugh in their faces for doing it. Tom Brokaw was scolding that twit Chris Mathews for doing exactly that the night of the New Hampshire Primary on MSNBC. I was laughing my ass off because he was so right. I watch MSNBC because they let Keith Olbermann share the podium with that idiot Tweety, bringing some desperately needed balance and sanity to their election coverage. They also feature Rachel Maddow and Eugene Robinson, which is so refreshing. Tweety and Joe Scarborough really need professional help, but I would be thrilled if they would just shut up once in a while and let the other panelists talk. Their arrogance and rudeness really annoys me. Most Beltway pundits do.
What I can't figure out is why they let people with such terrible track records with predictions keep their jobs. Tim Russert just turns my stomach. He's just Dick Cheney's puppet and a filthy liar to boot. He should have lost his job over the Scooter Libby situation.
It amuses me no end that the GOP are all over the place. The tattered remains of the Republican electorate are divided, angry with what they have for choices, unlike most Democrats, who figure even their fourth or fifth choice will be a hundred times better than any alternative from the Cranky Old White Men Party. This bodes very well for whoever gets the Democratic nomination. And in my opinion for the country and the planet as a whole.
I have really missed Cobert and Stewart and don't plan to watch them until the writer's strike is settled. Thank goodness for Countdown. It is an oasis of sanity in the crazy alternate dimension that has ripped a gaping hole in reality as I have always known it. 1984 was a cautionary tale, not a handbook.
