G plus one hour, 30 minutes: The con is ON!

Finally got the hotel's wireless Net access to play nice with my new Vista Vaio in the lobby, after two failed attempts yesterday. Con registration and the dealers' room are open as of 4 PM Eastern, but not much else happening yet, nor is anything scheduled until 7 PM. (See the con web site's program for events and times.)

In addition to those who arrived yesterday (see previous post here), filkferengi, filkerdave, stevemb and mnemex are now on site (starmalachite is upstairs catching Zs until 6:45), and billroper and filker0 are practicing on their axes nearby. mrgoodwraith and I hooked up, and I stashed his luggage in the car's trunk for the commute home later (way, way later...!) this evening.

The Songbird, AKA singing_phoenix just texted me from Nairobi this afternoon while I was still at work: "Peace talks broke down. More demos planned 4 Sat. May not be much but Embassy has advised to prepare 4 lockdown up to 2 weeks. Do not worry. [Yeah, right, honey...] Have fun and call when you can." Will post updates as I get them.
