G minus one day and counting: Hotel move-in, one dealer out

After getting off work and taking a last frantic pass at cleaning the house for my intended guests, I drove down to the shiny new GAFilk hotel tonight to scope the layout for the first time and see if anyone needed help with setup. (Pretty swanky compared to the old one, but then that wouldn't take much.) Helped the Con Suite Goddess haul in her stuff, then helped sffilk haul in his for the dealer's room, then went and had a nice Chinese dinner with him, then sat around the lobby listening to bedlamhouse and ladyat and markbernstein and kitanzi and khaosworks and assorted others shoot the breeze. Got to meet the Super Secret Guest Substitute, Peter S. Beagle, and found he has known an amazing number of people from my home state, including my birth city of Lafayette. I think he actually likes me! Or maybe he's just that nice a guy. ohiblather is here too, and the Bohnhoffs and Tanya.

No luck connecting to the hotel's wireless Internet service as yet; something is bollixed up somewhere—the Network control panel insisted I was connected, but the browser couldn't pull up even the hotel's logon page.

And suecochran called to say she's canceling her trip to the con at the last minute due to neuropathy problems; so there goes one table from the dealer's room—and one con guest from my apartment. Mike, Bill and autographedcat have all been notified and will take care of getting something else done with the space...but damnit, I was looking forward to seeing her! Shitpissdamnfuckcraphell.

Finally drove home as the rain started, but made it safely back by the grace of Ghu. Workies tomorrow 8 to 4, then straight back out to the con. At least mrgoodwraith (my remaining houseguest) won't have to worry about being crowded...

I'd like to thank thatcrazycajun and Mark (I don't know his last name) for helping me unload Southern Fried Filk out of my sport cute. For the first time ever, my car has been clear on GaFilk morning so that I can do the last minute things I need to and not worry and fret about the fact that my car is filled with store.
